Encouragement For the Encouragers

download (1)

Good morning fam!

I hope that this Saturday is greeting you well, and that you are able to find rest and refreshment from the “hustle and bustle” of the work week!  God is faithful!  I just want to take a moment of your time this morning to encourage you!

The purpose of this read is simple.  There is an unwritten rule or false idea that has seemed to develop over time in a lot of modern church, that if you are a believer in Christ, and you call yourself a Christian, then we must abandon the very thought of prosperity or surrender any success that is more than “barely enough”.

I am here this morning to tell you that there is NOTHING farther from the truth.

In Psalm 23 David begins to talk about this when he says “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. SURELY goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Have you ever heard any of the following statements in your life?

-How many people could you feed with the money you payed for those shoes?

-You could have built a house in Africa with the funds you spent on that car!

While feeding hungry people and reaching people who are in need are important and essential in a Christian walk, I would like to pose the fact that GOD WANTS TO BLESS YOU WITH MORE THAN ENOUGH.

Look at the above verse again.  It says “my cup RUNS OVER.”  It does not say that God sprinkles a droplet in my cup.  In ancient East, a full cup or over flowing cup, sent a message.  If you were at a banquet, as long as the cups were being refilled, the party was to be continued.  It gave the guests the idea that they were still welcome in the house.  David states that MY or YOUR cup is running over in the House of God.

Simply put, you are WANTED at the banqueting feast of God.  The celebration that gives MORE THAN ENOUGH, and the lifestyle that feeds and feeds and feeds.

Not only are you invited, but you are welcome to the King’s table while the enemies are there watching you feast. (see verse 5)

Maybe God isn’t blessing you the way that you would like to see in your life because we have allowed guilt keep us from asking! Look at 1 Chronicles 4:9,10.  When Jabez ASKED, look what God did.  “So God GRANTED HIM WHAT HE REQUESTED.”

Now!  Let me clear a few things up, as I can sense some imaginations could run down a path of destruction with the perversion of the above statements.

If we are to walk in the blessing of God, opposition is to be expected.  Whatever God starts, the devil opposes.  In verse 5 of the Psalm we read earlier, look where the table was prepared, “IN THE PRESENCE OF ENEMIES.”

Second, I believe that God gives us the privilege of exercising a sound mind.  The Word says “it is better to give than to receive.”  This read is not to pose as a “golden ticket” to neglect giving to the needy, or forsake the principle of the tithe to the local church.

The goal IS however, to maybe open the eyes of the battled to see that after we have given BACK to God what He has led us to give, there is nothing wrong with enjoying the blessings of God!

If you don’t see the “blessings falling into your lap” as my rapper friend Chance puts it, I would encourage you to SAY IT, EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T SEE IT.  Speak it!  Consistent declarations of faith, I believe brings immeasurable blessing in due season.

-God is able to give us more than we ask think or imagine!

-Christ ABUNDANTLY pardons us with the gift of His grace!

If this has encouraged you in ANY way, please consider taking a moment and sharing your story at brandoneskew22@yahoo.com.  I would love to hear how God has impacted your life!

The Circle of Life

Hello everyone!  As we approach the end of this election season, The Lord has given me a word to share to hopefully shine some hope on our future endeavors as a country and as individuals.  God has been really dealing with my heart recently on the power of creation, and His ability to create.  Almost every time you look in His word, when Jesus speaks, He creates.  His Word carries a power of creation that you can’t deny.  Anytime words come from His mouth, there is a newness that is formed, restored, or brought back together.  His words carry a creating power.

Can we take a moment to look at the very beginning.  In Genesis, the Word of God starts with this: “In the beginning God CREATED…”  There is a promise there, and if we aren’t careful, we will miss it.  It’s that before you, before I, before anything existed in this universe God was creating.  We can rest in that fact that before ANYTHING we face or go through in this life, no matter the difficulty, Christ is creating.  This can be freeing, in that it shows us that God created this moment so that ultimately He can shine through it.

This is where God blew my mind!  God spoke words and the formation of the galaxies came to be!  His Word created our solar system, and the thousands of planets outside of it, the 28,000 different species of fish alone, mountain formations such as Mount Everest that takes nearly two months to hike to the top of and get back,  or the millions of stars that are so vast the human eye can’t perceive the number of in one glance, or 86 billion neurons in an average human brain!  HIS WORD PAINTS PICTURES THAT HUMANS TODAY HAVE STILL YET TO DISCOVER!

Why is all this important you may ask.  It’s simple.  Creation brings hope.  In Jeremiah 31:35-37 it says “God’s message, from the God who lights up the day with sun and brightens the night with moon and stars, who whips the ocean into a billowy froth, whose name is God-of-the-Angel-Armies: if this ordered cosmos ever fell to pieces, then and only then might my people fall apart.”

This is saying that “as long as creation, the creation that the Creator created, (say that ten times fast), still holds true, as long as the sun still shines, as well as the ocean still billows, and as long as the stars still burn, My people have My promise.”  The day that His creation fails, will be the day that we will fall.  I don’t know about you, but I haven’t faced a day that the sun rose and left this earth dark as night.

From here we can know that our hope remains in one thing.  Our hope will not be found in a president, a job, a marriage, money, talent, but only in…HIS WORD.  It’s a beautiful picture that the CREATOR painted for me.  His Word creates, His creation brings hope, and our hope is in His Word.

In Mark chapter 7 we see a man who cannot hear or talk.  It says that God saw this man, looked to heaven and SPOKE “Ephphatha” which translates as an Aramaic word meaning “be opened”.   It’s simple.  Tonight know this.  God’s Word creates, and His creation can serve as a hope that He is with us, and ultimately sets us free to know that true hope is found in His word.  When we embed our lives with his Word, then our lives will “be opened” or Ephphatha to a new realm of fulfillment.

To whom this may concern:

Let me start by saying I am by no means, a politician or someone who is trying to be.  I am nothing more than a man.  After seeing, watching, and listening to the different news stories of what our nation is going through, I thought I would speak up.  I pray that before you continue, you would hear my heart in this and understand that I am simply trying to shed some perspective.

I have been watching the divide of a great nation of people over racial indifferences, and trying to wrap my head around the rage and violence epidemic that has spread like a wild fire throughout such a great nation.  Jesus Christ has shared some insight for me and maybe it might help you as well today.

First, let me say this:

When the enemy, being satan, is threatened, he will dispatch an attack to derail that threat.

It is obvious the enemy is trying to attack this great nation.  I believe that one of the greatest attacks that the enemy has is division.  Listen, it is no secret that I am not black.  It comes to no surprise, that I will never be a husband in a hispanic home.  I am not a woman who is a wife to a cop (or a wife to anyone for that matter), and I am not a child of a gunned down black man.  I am a white man.  However, the more I listen, the more I am learning that I can’t try to help someone who I don’t try to understand.

The more I watch social media, the more I see the importance of taking time before reacting.

What am I saying?  Myself, the church, and simply man in general should take time to listen to different people with different perspectives of life before reacting to a situation that we know little or nothing about.

Where do we start? Prayer.  I’ve heard it said that “Prayer is not our only responsibility as the church, but it’s a good start.”

What’s next?  This is where God really hit it home for me.  I heard Him say to me very clearly:

“It is not your job to qualify who deserves the love of Jesus, but to simply love.  This world will not know you by WHO you love, but HOW you love.”

To fix racism problems, we must not continue to look at it from a surface level.  You can’t solve a situation that you can’t see correctly.  If you never listen, then you will never be able to see.

“Well we are white and they are black.”

We are baptist, and they are reformed.”

We are filled with the holy ghost, and they don’t pray enough.”

Satan has created a divide in this great nation using WE and THEM.

Jesus, I believe has called the church to break the wall between us and them, and the only way we are going to do that is through the love of Jesus.  It is up to the church to love ALL people to bridge the gap between WE and THEM to create a unity of US.  We are in this together.  God will open our eyes to see there is more of US than “them”.

2 Kings 6:16 talks about a man named Elisha and his servant who were surrounded by the enemy at every angle.  When the servant asked “what shall we do?”, Elisha prayed that Jesus would “open his eyes” to give a different perspective.  It was in that moment that the servant saw a mountain full of horses and chariots of fire all around them that outnumbered their enemies.

The love of Jesus will bring unity.  It is up to the church to go into the world and share that love (Matthew 28:16-20).  It is the love of Christ that will break the divide of a “we and them” way of thinking.

I pray that you will join me today and pray that God open our eyes to see from a different perspective.  That we will not see from fear. We will listen to others who have a different take on life and be slow to speak but rather JUST LISTEN and UNDERSTAND.  I pray that today you are encouraged by the fact, we are not bound by “we and them” but the love of Jesus creates a freedom for US.
